MIR4672 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4672
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe recent studies characterize Ly49B as an immunoregulatory receptor predominantly expressed on distinct subpopulations of mouse myeloid cells. Although initially identified at low levels in spleen cells, Ly49B is more abundantly found in the bone marrow and peritoneal compartments, where its expression defines specialized subsets of CD11b⁺ cells. Notably, Ly49B‐expressing cells are separate from those bearing Ly49Q, and its expression can be modulated by inflammatory signals such as LPS as well as alpha‐ and gamma‐interferon. In addition, immunohistochemical analyses point to a prominent role for this receptor in gut immunobiology, particularly within the lamina propria and Peyer’s patches, and its activation is closely linked to the recruitment of inhibitory signaling molecules, including SHP-1, SHP-2, and SHIP."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nComplementary investigations have revealed that Ly49B displays unusual ligand-binding characteristics compared to other members of the Ly49 family. While sequence divergence and unique structural features—for example, the presence of a distinctive 20-amino acid C-terminal extension—distinguish Ly49B from its counterparts, subtle alterations in its amino acid composition (notably at positions 166, 167, and 251) are critically important for mediating promiscuous binding to class I MHC molecules. These studies highlight not only differences between isoforms (with the BALB/c variant binding class I ligands more readily than the C57 isoform) but also demonstrate that modifications, even at distal sites, can rescue ligand binding, thereby offering insights into the evolution of ligand recognition within the Ly49 family."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nTogether, these findings underscore the multifaceted role of Ly49B in immune regulation. From its selective expression in functionally distinct myeloid populations and inducible up-regulation during immune challenge to its unique capacity for class I MHC binding modulated by discrete structural determinants, Ly49B emerges as a key player in modulating immune responses. Although the request mentioned MIR4672, the abstracts provided focus entirely on Ly49B; hence, the current synthesis reflects our best understanding of Ly49B’s function as depicted in the cited studies."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}]}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Frances Gays, Jonathan G Aust, Delyth M Reid, et al.
