MIR4680 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4680
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAlthough the provided abstracts center on the functions of CREB‐regulated transcription coactivators—most notably CRTC3—in diverse metabolic, thermogenic, and cellular stress pathways, none of them directly address or mention MIR4680. Several studies describe how CRTC3 modulates adipose tissue function by attenuating β‐adrenergic receptor signaling, thereby promoting obesity, as well as by regulating brown adipose tissue thermogenesis through downstream effectors such as Rgs2 and UCP1. Cold exposure and cAMP‐stimulated signaling induce the nuclear translocation of CRTC3, an event linked to the regulation of microRNAs (for example, miR‐206) that influence sympathetic outflow and energy expenditure."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther investigations in the collection expand on the role of the CREB/CRTC axis in mitochondrial biogenesis and skeletal muscle remodeling. In models of catecholaminergic stress and mitochondrial inhibition, activation of CRTC coactivators (CRTC2/3) enhances PGC‐1α–dependent transcription that drives mitochondrial replication and supports anabolic adaptations after intense exercise. Moreover, cross talk between the CREB/CRTC pathway and other signal transduction systems—such as the JAK/STAT and AMPK/MARK cascades—further underscores the broad impact of these coactivators on key cellular decisions and energy balance, including effects in hematopoietic stem cell survival and adipogenic transformation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "5", "end_ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional work has revealed roles for CRTC3 in distinct processes such as melanogenesis and even in the regulation of social dominance via astrocyte‐derived growth factors. Collectively these studies illustrate how the CREB/CRTC signaling network orchestrates multiple transcriptional programs across various tissues. However, despite the extensive insights provided into the roles and regulatory mechanisms of CRTC3 and its associated pathways, the function of MIR4680 was not explored or mentioned in any of these reports.
