MIR4695 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4695
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have revealed that microRNAs with similar nomenclature, MIR4695, can function in distinct biological contexts. In osteosarcoma, a long noncoding RNA (AFAP1‐AS1) was found to promote tumor progression by acting as a molecular sponge for miR‐4695‐15p. This sequestration decreases miR‐4695‐15p levels, thereby relieving its repression of the transcriptional regulator TCF4. The ensuing upregulation of TCF4 activates the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway, ultimately enhancing cell proliferation, invasion, and tumor growth in osteosarcoma models."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a separate context involving primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), a variant of this microRNA, miR‐4695‐3p, was identified as a regulator of autoantigen expression. In human submandibular gland cells, mimics of miR‐4695‐3p downregulated the expression of TRIM21—a key autoantigen—along with pro‐apoptotic factors such as BAX, CASP‐8, and CASP‐9. This reduction in pro-apoptotic gene expression contributed to an antiapoptotic cellular phenotype, suggesting that miR‐4695‐3p plays a protective role against apoptosis and may impact glandular dysfunction seen in pSS."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Rongrui Li, Shichen Liu, Yao Li, et al.
