| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 4708 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies indicate that regulation of the actin cytoskeletal architecture is critical for proper cell development and function. In neuronal settings, proteins that modulate actin polymerization are essential for morphogenesis. For example, in the cerebellum and hippocampus, an actin nucleator protein (Cobl) requires the functional cooperation of its binding partner, Abp1, to drive proper dendritic arborization in Purkinje and hippocampal neurons. The Abp1 complex, when correctly localized and anchored to F‑actin, promotes higher order branch formation and overall neuromorphogenesis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn parallel, studies of reproductive biology have revealed that Abp1 plays an important role during embryo implantation and decidualization. Robust expression of Abp1 in the decidua, triggered in response to estrogen and regulated by additional signaling molecules such as cAMP and BMP2, correlates with proper implantation processes. This suggests that Abp1 is a key mediator of the uterine changes necessary to support early embryonic development."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurther, investigations into cell motility have shown that actin-binding proteins like mAbp1 are central to the formation of specialized structures such as podosome rosettes in transformed cells. Phosphorylation events on mAbp1 control its role in organizing these dynamic adhesion sites, which in turn regulate both extracellular matrix degradation and invasive cell migration. These findings underscore the complex regulatory roles that actin-associated proteins play in cellular invasion and adhesion."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, insights from developmental biology indicate that Amine Oxidase Copper-Containing 1 (AOC1)—formerly known as amiloride-binding protein 1 (Abp1)—is intimately linked with polyamine metabolism during organogenesis.
