| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 4715 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent investigations have highlighted the role of miR-4715-3p in cancer cell regulation. In upper gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas, miR-4715-3p directly binds to the 3′ untranslated region of Aurora kinase A (AURKA) mRNA, resulting in downregulation of AURKA expression. This reduction impedes proper progression through the G2/M phase and promotes chromosomal abnormalities, leading to cell cycle arrest and eventual cell death. Furthermore, the decrease in AURKA is accompanied by diminished levels of the ferroptosis inhibitor GPX4 and elevated apoptotic signals, suggesting that miR-4715-3p restoration or AURKA inhibition may trigger both apoptotic and ferroptotic pathways. Epigenetic modifications, such as increased methylation upstream of the miR-4715-3p gene, contribute to its silencing and further aggravate oncogenic progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its role in carcinogenesis, miR-4715-3p has also been implicated in the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Transcriptomic analyses have revealed a correlation between miR-4715-3p and the expression of Gasdermin D (GSDMD), a protein associated with macrophage infiltration and the development of fibrosis in NAFLD. This miR-4715-3p/GSDMD axis appears to modulate macrophage-associated immune responses, suggesting that it may serve both as a biomarker for disease progression and as a potential therapeutic target for mitigating liver fibrosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Ahmed Gomaa, Dunfa Peng, Zheng Chen, et al.
