MIR4717 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4717
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMIR4717 has been implicated in regulating immune responses and neural functions. In patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection, MIR4717 interacts in an allele-specific manner with the 3′ untranslated region of PD-1 mRNA, leading to decreased PD-1 expression and subsequent increases in proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF‑α and IFN‑γ, which may alter disease course. Similarly, MIR4717 is involved in neuropsychiatric regulation by downregulating RGS2 and other anxiety-associated genes; genetic variants in its host gene are linked to heightened anxiety traits. Furthermore, elevated levels of MIR4717 have been observed in Guillain–Barré syndrome, suggesting a role in processes such as cellular differentiation, survival, and axonal outgrowth."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the realm of malignancy, MIR4717 exhibits oncogenic properties in colorectal cancer. Fusobacterium nucleatum infection is associated with the upregulation of MIR4717, which in turn posttranscriptionally downregulates key tumor suppressors. In one study, CREBBP mRNA levels were found to be reduced in F. nucleatum-positive colorectal cancer tissues as a result of MIR4717 upregulation. In a related investigation, MIR4717 was shown to promote colorectal cancer cell proliferation by directly targeting the 3′-UTR of the tumor suppressor MAP2K4—a process further enhanced by METTL3-dependent m6A modification that accelerates the maturation of MIR4717."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditionally, within the lymphoma microenvironment, MIR4717 (specifically the MIR4717‑5p isoform) is abundant in exosomes secreted by cancer-associated fibroblasts.
