MIR4725 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4725
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn glioblastoma multiforme cells, miR‑4725‑3p functions as a critical inhibitor of cellular invasion. Its expression is up-regulated following treatment with xanthohumol—a prenylated flavonoid derived from hops—which in turn leads to the direct targeting and suppression of STIM1 by binding to its 3′‑untranslated region. As STIM1 is known to promote glioma cell invasion, its inhibition by miR‑4725‑3p effectively attenuates pro‑invasive signaling and may disrupt pathways such as the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition that are otherwise activated in aggressive tumor phenotypes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, the study indicates that the up-regulation of miR‑4725‑3p is at least partially mediated by the extracellular signal‑regulated kinase/c‑Fos pathway, revealing a novel mechanistic link between xanthohumol treatment and the suppression of glioma malignancy. These insights underscore the therapeutic potential of modulating miR‑4725‑3p levels as a means to restrain STIM1‑dependent invasion in glioblastoma and pave the way for the development of targeted interventions against this deadly brain tumor."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Kuo-Hao Ho, Cheng-Kuei Chang, Peng-Hsu Chen, et al.
