MIR4732 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4732
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have revealed that MIR4732 plays multifaceted, context‐dependent roles in cancer. In breast cancer, miR-4732-5p expression is reduced in early stages but becomes elevated in tumors with lymph node metastasis, where it promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via direct targeting and suppression of TSPAN13. In lung adenocarcinoma, decreased miR-4732-5p levels correlate with poor survival, whereas its overexpression inhibits migration, invasion, and metastasis by directly targeting XPR1 and interrupting the PI3K/Akt/GSK3β/Snail signaling cascade. Similar tumor‐suppressive effects of miR-4732-5p have also been observed in non‐small cell lung cancer, further supporting its role in modulating oncogenic processes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nDistinct from its 5p strand, the 3p variant of MIR4732 has also been implicated in lung cancer suppression. MiR-4732-3p negatively regulates the TBX15/TNFSF11 axis, thereby inhibiting malignant behaviors in lung cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo.
