| Name | microRNA 4773-2 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Instead, the literature focuses on the kinesin family member KIF18A and its multifaceted roles in cell division and genomic stability. For example, a study of mutant mice demonstrated that a conservative missense mutation (R308K) in the motor domain of KIF18A leads to severe germ cell depletion and infertility due to mitotic arrest and apoptosis—highlighting a unique, heightened sensitivity of germ cells to chromosome mis‐alignment during mitosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther work has identified KIF18A as a crucial promoter of tumorigenesis, particularly in colitis-associated colon cancer. KIF18A overexpression correlates with enhanced activation of the PI3K–Akt signaling pathway, promoting tumor cell proliferation and survival, whereas its loss not only protects mice from chemically induced colon cancer but also leads to increased cell apoptosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies have further refined our understanding of KIF18A’s role in maintaining genomic integrity. In mouse models and cultured cells, KIF18A deficiency results in the formation of micronuclei; however, these micronuclei tend to develop stable nuclear envelopes, thereby limiting their potential to drive tumorigenesis unless combined with other genetic deficiencies such as loss of p53. Beyond its role in mitosis and chromosomal stability, initial findings also hint at a possible involvement of KIF18A in regulating host immunity."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Anne Czechanski, Haein Kim, Candice Byers, et al.
