| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 4782 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In the context of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), studies aimed at identifying miRNAs targeting the deubiquitinating enzyme USP14—which when overexpressed is linked to tumor cell proliferation and a favorable prognosis—suggest that miR-4782-3p may play a role in modulating USP14 expression, thereby influencing NSCLC pathogenesis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), miR-4782-3p is expressed at low levels in tumor tissues, a finding that correlates with shorter patient survival. Functional studies revealed that reduced miR-4782-3p levels facilitate HCC cell growth and impede apoptosis, in part by diminishing its targeting of USP14. These results underscore a tumor-suppressive role for miR-4782-3p, with its downregulation contributing to cancer progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, in the setting of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a distinct molecular axis involving a circular RNA (hsa_circ_0042260) and miR-4782-3p has been identified. Here, hsa_circ_0042260 is upregulated and appears to act as a molecular sponge for miR-4782-3p, resulting in decreased miR-4782-3p levels. This, in turn, leads to increased expression of LAPTM4A, a downstream target implicated in promoting apoptosis and inflammation in high glucose-stimulated renal cells.
