MIR4795 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4795
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent findings have revealed that components related to MIR4795, particularly through its association with MEGF8, play crucial roles in modulating developmental signaling pathways. In one study, genome‐wide screens identified negative regulators of Hedgehog signaling, including MEGF8, which together with other proteins affects the trafficking and localization of the SMO receptor. The loss of these regulators leads to enhanced cell-surface SMO retention and ciliary accumulation, thereby sharpening cellular sensitivity to Sonic Hedgehog cues and influencing neural cell-fate decisions."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther research has underscored the importance of MEGF8 in bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling during sensory neuron development. A forward genetic screen in mice identified MEGF8 as a critical modifier of BMP4 signaling in trigeminal ganglion neurons. The absence of MEGF8 disrupted BMP4-mediated inhibition of axon growth, leading to misdirected axonal projections and developmental defects reminiscent of those observed in BMP4 loss-of-function models. This demonstrates that MEGF8 is necessary for the proper guidance and migration of sensory neurons."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, MEGF8 has been implicated in early embryonic processes that determine left–right asymmetry, a factor that indirectly influences cardiovascular development. Temporal deletion studies in mice revealed that disrupting MEGF8 function at very early embryonic stages can lead to laterality defects and aberrant aortic arch artery formation, suggesting that MEGF8’s regulatory activities are critical before cardiac organogenesis begins. This latent role in establishing laterality highlights an ancient and pivotal function for MEGF8 in ensuring proper tissue patterning and subsequent organ development."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Ganesh V Pusapati, Jennifer H Kong, Bhaven B Patel, et al.
