MIR5088 Gene

Name microRNA 5088
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Analysis of OSCC patient tissues revealed that although the levels of SLC16A1‑AS1 and premature miR‑5088‑5p were reduced, there was an increase in the mature form of miR‑5088‑5p. This observation suggests that the maturation process of miR‑5088‑5p is enhanced in OSCC, thereby contributing to the oncogenic profile of the tumor."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nDis primis duis mauris potenti non at sociosqu ultricies massa. Experimental approaches, including cellular fractionation and RNA pull‑down assays, demonstrated that SLC16A1‑AS1 localizes to both the nucleus and cytoplasm and directly binds to premature miR‑5088‑5p, inhibiting its processing to the mature, oncogenic form. This mechanistic insight underscores the critical regulatory role of SLC16A1‑AS1 in modulating miR‑5088‑5p maturation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nFusce class lectus fringilla commodo sit blandit pellentesque. Functional assays further revealed that overexpression of SLC16A1‑AS1 suppresses cell proliferation by negatively regulating the conversion of miR‑5088‑5p into its mature state.
