MIR5194 Gene

Name microRNA 5194
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Recent studies have uncovered that LINC01063 is markedly upregulated in melanoma tissues—especially in advanced and metastatic cases—highlighting its significant role in disease progression. This long noncoding RNA contributes to melanoma pathology by interacting with key molecular regulators."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nMechanistic investigations reveal that LINC01063 functions as a molecular sponge for miR-5194. Under normal circumstances, miR-5194 negatively regulates the expression of SOX12, a transcription factor involved in tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. By sequestering miR-5194, LINC01063 alleviates this suppression, leading to enhanced SOX12 expression and, consequently, promoting the malignant behavior of melanoma cells. These findings support the notion that the LINC01063/miR-5194/SOX12 axis could represent a promising target for therapeutic intervention and a potential prognostic biomarker in melanoma."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Jiangmei Xu, Rongying Ou, Gang Nie, et al.
