MIR548A3 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 548a-3
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In colon cancer, reduced levels of miR-548a-3p in clinical tissues and cell lines were associated with elevated expression of its target, TPX2, a protein that promotes cell proliferation and migration. Functional experiments demonstrated that restoring miR-548a-3p expression suppressed cell viability, proliferation, and migration, highlighting its tumor‐suppressive potential through the direct targeting of TPX2."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast, in the context of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), circulating levels of miR-548a-3p were found to be significantly upregulated compared to non‐GVHD cases. Bioinformatic and expression analyses in these patients suggest that miR-548a-3p may be involved in the regulation of immune responses and inflammatory pathways. Its consistent upregulation and association with disease parameters indicate its potential use as a noninvasive biomarker for the timely diagnosis and management of aGVHD."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Ming Wang, Min Yang, Benyuan Deng "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "miR-548a-3p Weakens the Tumorigenesis of Colon Cancer Through Targeting TPX2."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Cancer Biother Radiopharm (2022)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1089/cbr.2020.3767"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1089/cbr.2020.3767"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "32857606"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32857606"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Jamshid Motaei, Mohammad Amin Kerachian, Seied Asadollah Mousavi, et al.
