MIR548AJ1 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 548aj-1
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAlthough none of the provided studies explicitly examined MIR548AJ1, the collective findings on cytoskeletal regulation, cell adhesion, motility, proliferation, and differentiation provide a conceptual framework in which MIR548AJ1 might function. For example, analyses in osteoclasts revealed that a highly compartmentalized expression of multiple tropomyosin isoforms is critical for dynamic actin cytoskeleton remodeling and bone resorption, suggesting that regulators of cytoskeletal stability can have profound effects on cell morphology and specialized functions."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn parallel, several studies focused on the transmembrane glycoprotein Trop2 and members of the tropomyosin family in different cellular models—from cancer cells and cardiac progenitors to mesenchymal stem cells and embryonic epithelial progenitors—demonstrating that regulation of these proteins orchestrates cell–cell interactions, focal adhesion dynamics, and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). For instance, Trop2 was shown to promote pro‐metastatic adhesion and motility in prostate cancer, enhance survival and differentiation in progenitor cell populations, and contribute to stem cell–mediated tissue repair via paracrine signaling and activation of downstream pathways such as AKT/GSK3β/β‐catenin."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "4", "end_ref": "11"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional work has underscored the roles of tropomyosin 2 in cancer progression—from lung adenocarcinoma to colitis‐associated cancer—further linking alterations in cytoskeletal proteins with disease development and progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "12"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn light of these data, one might speculate that MIR548AJ1—a microRNA potentially capable of fine‐tuning gene expression—could intersect with the pathways regulating the actin cytoskeleton, focal adhesion assembly, and EMT. MIR548AJ1 may act upstream of key effectors like tropomyosins and Trop2, thereby influencing cellular processes such as migration, proliferation, and differentiation in diverse physiological and pathological contexts. Although direct evidence for MIR548AJ1’s role is currently lacking in these studies, the observed regulatory networks offer promising avenues for future research to elucidate whether and how MIR548AJ1 modulates these critical cellular functions.\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Brooke K McMichael, Preeyal Kotadiya, Tejdeep Singh, et al.
