| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 548f-4 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe collection of abstracts highlights the crucial roles of TWIK‐1 and other two‐pore domain (K2P) K⁺ channels in diverse physiological settings. In astrocytes, TWIK‐1 forms heterodimeric channels (with TREK‐1) that regulate passive conductance and neurotransmitter cycling, while in cardiomyocytes, alterations in TWIK‐1 ion selectivity under hypokalemic conditions contribute to paradoxical depolarization. Additional studies document TWIK‐1’s involvement in sensory regulation in the inner ear, kidney function, and even osteoclast differentiation via related channels. These reports underscore complex regulatory mechanisms such as heterodimer formation, trafficking modulation by receptors, and altered pore properties that together shape membrane potential and cellular excitability."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nNotably, these studies do not provide any direct mention or experimental data concerning MIR548F4. Consequently, while extensive insights are offered regarding the functioning, trafficking, and regulation of TWIK‐1 channels—with further discussions on post‐translational modifications and feedback mechanisms in neuronal, cardiac, and epithelial contexts—none of the abstracts describe a role for MIR548F4. This absence suggests that, within the scope of these investigations, MIR548F4 is not implicated as a regulator or effector of TWIK‐1 channel activity."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn summary, while the provided abstracts collectively reveal multiple facets of TWIK‐1 channel biology—including its interactions with TREK‐1, responsiveness to receptor activation, and contributions to ion homeostasis in varied tissues—none offer functional data on MIR548F4.
