| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 548m |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nEvidence from studies in the lymphoma microenvironment indicates that MIR548M plays a critical role in regulating oncogenic signaling pathways. In mantle cell and other non‐Hodgkin lymphomas, stromal cell interactions trigger a c-Myc/miR-548m feed-forward loop whereby sustained c-Myc activation leads to the downregulation of miR-548m. This reduction in miR-548m levels subsequently contributes to an increase in histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) expression, which facilitates enhanced cell survival, clonogenicity, and drug resistance. These findings suggest that MIR548M functions as a tumor-suppressive factor by modulating epigenetic regulators and survival pathways critical for lymphoma progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional insights into the molecular role of MIR548M emerge from studies examining miRNA binding sites within coding sequences of specific mRNAs. In this context, MIR548M, together with other family members such as miR-548j and miR-548d-5p, has been shown to target conserved binding sites in the mRNA of PTPN12 orthologs. These interactions occur in regions encoding short, conserved oligopeptides, underscoring the evolutionary preservation and likely functional significance of this miRNA-mRNA regulatory module in modulating gene expression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Tint Lwin, Xiaohong Zhao, Fengdong Cheng, et al.
