MIR5585 Gene

Name microRNA 5585
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

The investigation identified a novel FOXJ1 target, Cfap157, whose protein product localizes at basal bodies and interacts with cytoskeletal components to ensure the correct ultrastructural formation of sperm flagella – a process essential for normal sperm motility. Although MIR5585 is not directly discussed in this research, the study contributes to our broader understanding of the regulation of motile cilia functions and the genetic networks that might also be modulated by regulatory RNAs."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA separate study focusing on miRNA:mRNA interactions provided insights where miR-5585-3p, a specific variant of MIR5585, was found to bind with high affinity to the mRNAs of 655 genes. This miRNA exhibits binding sites distributed across both coding sequences and untranslated regions, often with multiple binding sites per transcript, suggesting its potential role as a broad regulator of gene expression that may impact diverse cellular pathways through coordinated post-transcriptional control."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Marina Weidemann, Karin Schuster-Gossler, Michael Stauber, et al.
