| Name | microRNA 5586 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe provided abstracts collectively offer a comprehensive view of the roles of the synuclein family (α‐, β‐, and γ‐synuclein) in neuronal and presynaptic function. Multiple studies using single-, double-, and triple‐knockout mice demonstrate that while loss of synucleins does not grossly disturb basic synapse formation or survival, it leads to subtle long‐term changes in presynaptic protein composition, synaptic terminal architecture, and the regulation of dopamine handling. In particular, alterations in synaptic signaling proteins, vesicle pool dynamics, and structural organization have been linked to changes in neurotransmitter release and neuronal vulnerability, which are relevant to conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies further detail the nuances of synuclein function. Electron microscopic and cryo‐electron tomographic analyses reveal that synucleins regulate the organization of synaptic vesicle pools, influencing aspects such as vesicle tethering to the active zone and the connectivity among vesicles. Observations from sensory system research and neurotoxin exposure models underline that synucleins can modulate dopamine uptake and protect against selective neurotoxic insults, while also hinting at compartmentalized roles within distinct neuronal subpopulations."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nCritically, none of the provided abstracts mention or investigate MIR5586. Although these studies elucidate a broad spectrum of synuclein-mediated processes—from synaptic architecture and vesicle dynamics to dopamine regulation and neuroprotection—no functional role for MIR5586 is described. As such, based on the current collection of evidence, there is no insight into MIR5586’s involvement in these neurobiological mechanisms.
