MIR5702 Gene

Name microRNA 5702
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC), MIR5702 is directly bound and negatively regulated by the long non‐coding RNA LUCAT1. Elevated levels of LUCAT1 reduce MIR5702 activity, which is associated with enhanced cell proliferation, accelerated cell cycle progression, increased metastatic potential, and reduced apoptosis, thereby contributing to TNBC tumorigenesis. Restoration of MIR5702 levels through LUCAT1 depletion has been shown to reverse these oncogenic effects."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC), downregulation of MIR5702 has also been observed, reinforcing its role as a tumor suppressor. Although its clinical significance in NSCLC is still being evaluated, the diminished expression of MIR5702 suggests that loss of its regulatory function may contribute to lung cancer progression, making it a promising candidate for further prognostic and therapeutic exploration."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Exian Mou, Hao Wang "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "LncRNA LUCAT1 facilitates tumorigenesis and metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer through modulating miR-5702."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Biosci Rep (2019)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1042/BSR20190489"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1042/BSR20190489"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "31399501"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31399501"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "K Li, Y Xu, L-N Yuan "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Down-regulation of miR-5702 is associated with clinical progression and poor prognosis in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci (2019)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.26355/eurrev_201903_17245"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.26355/eurrev_201903_17245"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "30915748"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30915748"}]}]}]}
