| Name | microRNA 5707 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nGTF2IRD1, a member of the TFII‐I transcription factor family, plays a central role in mammalian craniofacial and neurobehavioral development. Its dosage‐sensitive expression is crucial for the normal differentiation of craniofacial structures and higher cognitive functions, as evidenced by studies linking its haploinsufficiency to many of the characteristic features observed in Williams–Beuren syndrome. Disruption of GTF2IRD1 function leads not only to facial dysmorphology and altered cognitive and social behaviors but also to abnormalities in vasculogenesis and stress‐responsive neurochemical pathways that influence anxiety and motor coordination. Moreover, investigation in both human patients and mouse models highlights GTF2IRD1’s contribution to auditory function, with its deficiency resulting in impairments in cochlear amplification and higher auditory thresholds."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond its developmental roles in the nervous system, GTF2IRD1 is instrumental in tissue-specific transcriptional regulation across multiple organ systems. It mediates mechanosensitive gene expression in tendons by activating key extracellular matrix constituents, thereby contributing to tissue homeostasis and regeneration. In skeletal muscle, through alternatively spliced isoforms, GTF2IRD1 influences muscle fiber type specification and modulates promoter activity in a manner that underscores its versatile regulatory capacity. Its DNA-binding properties, characterized by defined consensus motifs and autoregulatory mechanisms, further establish its role as a central integrator of signals that directs diverse transcriptional programs."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "9", "end_ref": "14"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies extend the functional repertoire of GTF2IRD1 to include roles in oncogenesis, retinal development, and odontogenesis. Its ability to regulate synaptic and signal transduction genes in the developing brain, as well as modulate expression patterns of opsins in cone photoreceptors, underscores its importance in fine-tuning tissue-specific gene networks. In adipose tissue, GTF2IRD1 participates in the repression of TGF-β–dependent pro-fibrotic genes, thereby curtailing fibrosis and contributing to systemic glucose homeostasis. Furthermore, its involvement in breast tumor promotion and documented interactions with related paralogs suggest that GTF2IRD1 functions within broader transcriptional complexes that are critical for maintaining cellular homeostasis and may be perturbed in a variety of human disorders."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "15", "end_ref": "22"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}]}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "May Tassabehji, Peter Hammond, Annette Karmiloff-Smith, et al.
