| Name | microRNA 586 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent research has revealed that MIR586 plays multifaceted roles in both developmental and disease contexts. In dental pulp cells undergoing odontoblastic differentiation, MIR586 acts as a post‐transcriptional regulator by modulating DSPP—a critical marker for tooth development and mineralization—thereby contributing to the fine‐tuning of odontoblast differentiation processes. In parallel, studies in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation settings have shown that altered plasma levels of MIR586 correlate with acute graft‐versus‐host disease (aGVHD). Notably, decreased MIR586 levels are associated with early aGVHD onset, while increased levels in situations of infection highlight its potential utility as an early predictive biomarker for aGVHD."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of gastric cancer, MIR586 has been implicated as an oncogenic microRNA. It functions by being sequestered by circ_0001190––a circular RNA that normally acts as a molecular sponge––which in turn modulates the expression of SOSTDC1, a known tumor suppressor. The derepression of MIR586 leads to downregulation of SOSTDC1, thereby promoting cell proliferation, angiogenesis, migration, and invasion in gastric cancer cells, which underscores the microRNA’s potential as a therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, genomic analyses have identified the MIR586 locus within a 730 kilobase region on chromosome 6 that exhibits significant transmission distortion among healthy individuals. This non-Mendelian inheritance pattern, observed specifically among male parents of European ancestry, suggests that the genomic neighborhood harboring MIR586 is subject to selection pressures or mechanistic biases in allele transmission. Such findings indicate that the regulation and function of MIR586 may be influenced by broader genomic mechanisms, a factor that merits careful consideration in genetic linkage studies."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Xin Huang, Shujun Xu, Jie Gao, et al.
