MIR6078 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6078
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe collection of studies outlines a central regulatory role for the WNK‐SPAK/OSR1 kinase cascade in controlling ion transporter activity—in particular, the cation–chloride cotransporters (NKCC1, NKCC2, NCC) that are essential for salt balance, blood pressure regulation, and cellular responses to osmotic and oxidative stress. Several reports describe how activation of the kinases (via phosphorylation events) modulates transporter expression and function in diverse tissues such as the kidney, brain, and blood vessels, highlighting the importance of the cascade in both normal physiology and disease states such as hypertension and pseudohypoaldosteronism type II."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies emphasize that this kinase cascade does not just operate as a simple “on–off” switch but is also subject to fine‐tuning during stress and dietary challenges. For instance, research shows that altered SPAK and OSR1 activity can affect renal tubular handling of electrolytes when animals are exposed to changes in salt or potassium diets, and that similar regulatory processes occur in neuronal and inflammatory contexts. In these settings, changes in transporter phosphorylation—as well as kinase–scaffold interactions and feedback from upstream signals like angiotensin II—are critical for maintaining cellular homeostasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "15"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nNotably, although none of these abstracts explicitly mention or characterize MIR6078, the extensive dissection of the SPAK/OSR1 signaling network raises the intriguing possibility that MIR6078—if functionally connected to these pathways—might act as a post‐transcriptional regulatory factor. In such a role, MIR6078 could modulate the expression or activity of key proteins in the cascade (for example, by targeting mRNAs encoding SPAK, OSR1, or associated transporters) and thereby fine‐tune cellular responses to stress, electrolyte fluctuations, and hormonal cues. This hypothetical function is supported indirectly by the overall importance of regulatory balance in these signaling networks, as illustrated by studies of transporter phosphorylation, vascular tone modulation, and stress‐induced inflammatory responses."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "16", "end_ref": "24"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Kerstin Piechotta, Jianming Lu, Eric Delpire "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Cation chloride cotransporters interact with the stress-related kinases Ste20-related proline-alanine-rich kinase (SPAK) and oxidative stress response 1 (OSR1)."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "J Biol Chem (2002)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1074/jbc.M208108200"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1074/jbc.M208108200"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "12386165"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12386165"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Sung-Sen Yang, Yi-Fen Lo, Chin-Chen Wu, et al.
