| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 610 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nmiR‑610 is emerging as an important tumor‐suppressive microRNA that exerts its anti‑oncogenic effects by directly targeting key regulators of cell migration, invasion, and proliferation. In gastric cancer, for example, miR‑610 is downregulated following epidermal growth factor stimulation, which normally upregulates VASP – a promoter of cell migration and invasion. miR‑610 directly binds to the 3′‑UTR of VASP mRNA, thereby inhibiting its expression and reducing the migratory and invasive capabilities of tumor cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its role in gastric cancer, miR‑610 has been implicated in hematological and brain malignancies. In multiple myeloma, the oncogenic lncRNA FEZF1‑AS1 acts as a competing endogenous RNA that sequesters miR‑610, thereby promoting Akt3 expression and enhancing cell proliferation. Similarly, studies in glioblastoma and glioma reveal that miR‑610 is markedly downregulated compared to normal tissues, and its restoration blocks tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by directly targeting key regulators such as cyclin D2 (CCND2), AKT3, and MDM2."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, research in oral squamous cell carcinoma underscores the broad tumor‑suppressive role of miR‑610, highlighting its potential as a target for novel therapeutic strategies.
