MIR6126 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6126
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMiR-6126 plays a critical tumor‐suppressive role in ovarian cancer by modulating multiple aspects of tumor progression. It is abundantly secreted via exosomes from both chemosensitive and chemoresistant ovarian cancer cells, and its expression is higher in healthy ovarian tissue compared to cancerous samples—correlating with better overall survival in patients with high‐grade serous ovarian cancer. Functionally, miR-6126 directly targets integrin-β1, thereby reducing metastatic behaviors such as invasion, migration, and endothelial tube formation. Moreover, treatment with a miR-6126 mimic leads to decreased integrin-β1 mRNA levels in exosomes, diminished tumor growth, reduced proliferation, and lower microvessel density in vivo, while inhibition of miR-6126 promotes oncogenic behavior by increasing exosome release."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, miR-6126 has emerged as a promising biomarker and therapeutic agent. During pegylated interferon therapy, elevated serum levels of miR-6126 at week 24 predict a sustained 1-log reduction in HBs antigen 48 weeks post-treatment. In vitro studies further support its antiviral activity; miR-6126 not only reduces HBsAg secretion into the culture medium but also decreases intracellular HBV-DNA levels, underlying its potential to suppress viral replication."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}]}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Pinar Kanlikilicer, Mohammed H Rashed, Recep Bayraktar, et al.
