MIR642B Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 642b
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

This upregulation suggests that MIR642B may modulate key cellular processes—such as differentiation, cell survival, and axonal outgrowth—that are critical in the autoimmune-mediated inflammation and repair of peripheral nerves."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn parallel, a study investigating head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) dormancy examined the contribution of miRNAs in the phenotypic plasticity and reactivation of dormant cancer cells via factors like PRRX1. Although this study did not directly focus on MIR642B, it highlighted the broader role of miRNA regulatory networks in governing processes such as migration and invasion. The implication is that miRNAs, possibly including MIR642B, could influence cancer dormancy dynamics, even if their exact function in this context remains to be defined."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nTogether, these studies underscore that MIR642B represents a potentially important regulatory molecule with context‐dependent roles: in GBS, it may actively participate in the modulation of nerve cell behavior during inflammatory and regenerative processes, while in cancer, it could be an indirect actor within complex miRNA networks that control cellular dormancy and reactivation. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanistic underpinnings of MIR642B in these diverse pathological settings."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Zhanyun Lv, Qiguang Shi, Wenhui Huang, et al.
