MIR6506 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6506
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nNumerous studies have established that interferon‐inducible guanylate‐binding proteins (GBPs) play central roles in host defense against intracellular pathogens by orchestrating processes such as oxidative burst, autophagy, inflammasome activation, and the regulation of cytokine and chemokine production. These GBP family members have been shown to target bacterial and parasitic vacuoles, facilitate the recruitment of antimicrobial effectors, and modulate cell‐intrinsic inflammatory responses in a range of infectious settings. In addition, specific genetic and biochemical analyses in various murine and human models demonstrate that GBPs not only contribute to the clearance of pathogens like Listeria, Mycobacteria, Toxoplasma gondii, and Chlamydia species but also regulate downstream signaling pathways—including MAP kinase and STAT1 activation—to preserve tissue integrity and modulate immune cell aging and metabolic fitness."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a distinct line of investigation into tumor biology, a study in gastric cancer has revealed that the circular RNA hsa_circ_0001368 acts as a competing endogenous RNA by sponging miR‐6506‐5p. This microRNA normally targets and suppresses the expression of FOXO3—a well‐recognized tumor‐suppressor gene—so that reduced levels of hsa_circ_0001368 lead to enhanced miR‐6506‐5p activity, diminished FOXO3 expression, and consequently, increased cell proliferation, invasion, and tumor progression. Thus, in this context, miR‐6506‐5p functions as a crucial negative regulator of FOXO3, and its modulation via ceRNA networks may offer promising avenues for therapeutic intervention in gastric cancer."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "11"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Julie Mirpuri, Jennifer C Brazil, Andrew J Berardinelli, et al.
