MIR6508 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6508
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

A recent study identified the long noncoding RNA AF119895 as being markedly amplified in HCC, wherein it significantly contributes to cancer cell migration and invasion. Notably, this lncRNA exerts its oncogenic function by acting as a molecular sponge that sequesters miR-6508-3p—an endogenous microRNA that normally regulates gene expression post‐transcriptionally."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nDisruption of miR-6508-3p function via binding with AF119895 leads to decreased levels of this microRNA, thereby relieving its inhibitory effect on the target gene NXF3. Normally, miR-6508-3p interacts with the 3′ untranslated region of NXF3 mRNA to suppress its expression; however, when miR-6508-3p is sequestered, NXF3 levels increase, promoting cellular processes such as migration and invasion that drive hepatocarcinogenesis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nThese findings outline a novel molecular axis in HCC, where the interplay between AF119895, miR-6508-3p, and NXF3 contributes to the aggressive behavior of tumor cells. The study suggests that miR-6508-3p not only plays a crucial role as a tumor suppressor via NXF3 regulation, but its modulation may offer a promising prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in HCC management."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Tao Zeng, Dan Wang, Juan Chen, et al.
