| Name | microRNA 658 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Similarly, during early foregut development, canonical WNT2/2b signaling is necessary for lung progenitor specification, with loss of these signals causing lung agenesis (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). In addition, studies using mesenchymal stem cells demonstrate that WNT2, along with other WNT proteins, promotes fibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix production, highlighting its involvement in tissue repair and fibrosis (refer to ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], and ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). Furthermore, WNT2 plays a critical role in neural development by regulating dopaminergic progenitor cell proliferation and neuron formation (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]), and its influence is also evident in mesodermal lineage commitment during embryonic stem cell differentiation (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "])."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nWNT2 signaling additionally regulates ovarian functions; in granulosa cells, for instance, it governs beta‐catenin localization, gap junction assembly, and cell proliferation – all pivotal for proper folliculogenesis (evidence from ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). In lung development, cooperative interactions between WNT2 and another ligand, WNT7b, are essential for mesenchymal smooth muscle formation, a process that is finely modulated by other pathways such as that of PDGF (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). Moreover, factors regulating vascular smooth muscle cell migration and stress‐induced depression‐like behaviors have been linked to changes in WNT signaling activity (refer to ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "11"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "] and ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "12"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], respectively)."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurther extending its biological significance, WNT2 is associated with pathological fibrosis, as seen in models of pancreatic injury where downregulation of WNT2 and its canonical effector beta‐catenin correlates with reduced fibrogenesis upon treatment with therapeutic agents (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "13"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). Altered expression of WNT2 is also reported in neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, and its upregulation appears integral to cardiomyocyte differentiation and heart morphogenesis – in part through interactions with transcription factors like GATA6 (see ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "14"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "] and ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "15"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]).
