| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 670 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn glioblastoma, elevated levels of miR‑670‑3p contribute to tumor progression by suppressing ferroptosis through direct targeting of ACSL4. This suppression limits ferroptosis‐induced cell death, thereby promoting cell growth and compromising the tumor’s sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents such as temozolomide. Consequently, inhibition of miR‑670‑3p triggers ferroptosis and significantly impairs glioblastoma cell proliferation, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the oncogenic effects of miR‑670‑5p are modulated by circular RNAs such as circsSMARCA5. Here, downregulation of circsSMARCA5 leads to an aberrant increase in miR‑670‑5p levels, which in turn suppresses the expression of the tumor suppressor RBM24. This regulatory axis suggests that the imbalance of miR‑670‑5p activity, mediated via its interaction with competitive endogenous RNAs, plays a critical role in enhancing NSCLC tumor growth."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, in lung cancer, miR‑670‑5p is overexpressed and functions as an oncogene by targeting and downregulating the tumor suppressor gene WWOX. This targeting results in increased cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while its inhibition leads to elevated levels of cell cycle regulator P21 and adhesion molecule E‑cadherin, along with reduced expression of MMP‑2. Such findings underscore the pivotal role of miR‑670‑5p in driving malignancy and highlight its potential as a molecular target for therapeutic intervention."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Chong Bao, Jing Zhang, Shu-Yue Xian, et al.
