MIR6749 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6749
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nWhile none of the provided studies directly mention or investigate MIR6749, the collective findings across these reports illustrate the central role of CYP7B1 and related oxysterol-metabolizing enzymes in regulating steroid hormone and cholesterol homeostasis. As a microRNA, MIR6749—if involved—might be envisioned to post‐transcriptionally modulate components of these pathways. For instance, research in rodent models has revealed that CYP7B1 helps control epithelial proliferation in the ventral prostate by regulating the bioavailability of the ERβ ligand 3β‐Adiol, thereby acting as an antiproliferative signal (["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]).\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies have demonstrated that in osteoarthritic chondrocytes and lymphoid tissues the activity of CYP7B1, in tandem with other cholesterol hydroxylases such as CH25H, plays a decisive role in controlling oxysterol production and downstream signaling through nuclear receptors (for example, the RORα axis), with significant impacts on local inflammatory and metabolic responses (["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]).\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, investigations into metabolic disorders such as fatty liver disease, osteoporosis, and neurodegenerative conditions have underscored how modulation of CYP7B1 expression and function (including its interplay with factors like STARd1 and LXRα) affects the regulation of key oxysterols. Such studies extend from altered hepatic lipid profiles and bile acid synthesis to the maintenance of neuronal and mesenchymal stem cell functions (["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]).\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurther evidence from studies examining the roles of CYP7B1 in metabolic-associated fatty liver disease, brain function, and bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell activation highlights the enzyme’s importance in maintaining systemic metabolic balance and regulating inflammation and tissue repair (["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "], ["}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "11"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "]). In light of these findings, although MIR6749 is not explicitly featured in the literature provided, it is plausible to speculate that as a regulatory microRNA it may influence one or more nodes within these CYP7B1-centric metabolic and signaling networks.
