MIR6790 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6790
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAlthough the query requests a summary of MIR6790 function, none of the provided abstracts mention MIR6790. Instead, these studies consistently focus on the WD40 repeat-containing protein known as p44/WDR77, which plays a pivotal role in regulating cellular proliferation and differentiation during development as well as in tumorigenesis. For example, early during lung development, p44/WDR77 is expressed in rapidly growing epithelial cells, driving proliferation; however, its expression is lost upon terminal differentiation, with re‐expression being closely linked to lung cancer cell proliferation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMechanistic investigations reveal that p44/WDR77 functions as an essential cofactor for the androgen receptor (AR), modulating AR-dependent gene expression that is critical for prostate growth, differentiation, and even cell cycle re-entry in differentiated cells. Its subcellular localization is tightly controlled—shifting from the cytoplasm in proliferative stages to the nucleus in fully differentiated cells—with mislocalization associated with cancer progression. Additional studies indicate that transcriptional control of WDR77 involves regulatory switches mediated by E2F and GATA family members, reinforcing its role in preventing premature differentiation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "4", "end_ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther studies extend the functional profile of WDR77 beyond developmental contexts. In bone, for instance, associations between related proteins (such as MEP50) and membrane receptors demonstrate its indirect role in cell maturation, while in antiviral immunity, WDR77 is shown to bind MAVS and inhibit its prion-like aggregation, thereby modulating RIG-I-MAVS signaling and subsequent innate immune responses."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Z Gu, F Zhang, Z-Q Wang, et al.
