MIR6797 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6797
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nParathyroid hormone (PTH) has been shown to regulate osteoblast differentiation through a complex interplay between protein‐coding genes and noncoding RNAs, including both long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs). In human bone marrow stromal cells and osteoblastic MG63 cells, PTH treatment increases Runx2 mRNA levels—a key transcription factor driving osteoblast differentiation—and simultaneously upregulates the expression of lnc-SUPT3H-1:16. This lncRNA functions as a sponge for miR-6797-5p, a microRNA whose overexpression otherwise impairs osteoblast differentiation by targeting the 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) of Runx2, effectively reducing Runx2 protein levels."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nBiochemical assays, including luciferase gene reporter experiments, confirmed that miR-6797-5p directly interacts with both lnc-SUPT3H-1:16 and Runx2 mRNA. Thus, by sequestering miR-6797-5p, the lncRNA relieves its inhibitory effect on Runx2, leading to sustained Runx2 expression and the subsequent promotion of osteoblast differentiation. Collectively, these findings illustrate how PTH orchestrates a finely tuned regulatory network involving lncRNA-mediated miRNA sponging to modulate the osteogenic program."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "B Arumugam, M Vishal, S Shreya, et al.
