MIR6799 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6799
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe collected studies demonstrate that cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3A (PDE3A) is a pivotal regulator of intracellular cyclic AMP levels, with profound implications in reproductive biology. In oocytes, PDE3A‐mediated hydrolysis of cAMP is essential for the timely resumption of meiosis. Genetic ablation or inhibition of PDE3A leads to persistently elevated cAMP and overactive protein kinase A (PKA) signaling, resulting in a meiotic arrest and infertility—a defect that can be overcome by interventions restoring downstream signaling balance. These findings emphasize that the precise modulation of cAMP by PDE3A underpins normal oocyte maturation and female fertility."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the cardiovascular system, PDE3A also emerges as a key modulator of cAMP-dependent signaling in diverse cell types. In platelets and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), PDE3A regulates cell growth, contractility, and responses to beta-adrenergic stimulation, thereby influencing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and ventricular remodeling. For instance, alterations in PDE3A activity affect MAPK signaling and cell cycle progression in VSMCs, while in cardiomyocytes, PDE3A not only determines cAMP levels but also hydrolyzes alternate cyclic nucleotides such as cUMP, and its association with calcium-handling proteins like SERCA2 may further impact contractile function. In addition, modulation of PDE3A activity by upstream regulators such as nitric oxide-sensitive guanylyl cyclase (NO-GC) has been shown to alter vascular tone and relaxation. Collectively, these studies underscore that PDE3A function is integral to maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis and that its dysregulation may contribute to adverse remodeling and other pathophysiological states."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "5", "end_ref": "12"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond reproduction and cardiovascular regulation, PDE3A activity influences other critical physiological contexts. In cerebral and pulmonary vascular beds, pharmacological inhibition of PDE3 with agents like cilostazol has been shown to protect against tPA-associated hemorrhagic transformation and to stabilize endothelial barrier function via a protein kinase G (PKG-Iα)-dependent mechanism. Moreover, PDE3A expression in gastrointestinal interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) plays an important role during gut development, and in gastrointestinal stromal tumors its functional interplay with cytotoxic partners suggests novel therapeutic avenues. Finally, PDE3A also impacts inflammatory and metabolic pathways in allergic airway inflammation and pulmonary hypertension, further emphasizing its role as a multifaceted regulator of cellular signaling in diverse tissues."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "13", "end_ref": "17"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Silvia Masciarelli, Kathleen Horner, Chengyu Liu, et al.
