| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 6815 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In studies focused on Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease, adaptor proteins such as those binding the cytoplasmic domain of the beta‐amyloid precursor protein and those mediating BDNF/Trk signaling were shown to promote or attenuate downstream mitogen‐activated protein kinase and cell survival pathways, processes that MIR6815 might influence by modulating the availability or activity of critical docking proteins."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the nervous system, adaptor proteins such as ShcB, ShcC (also termed N‐Shc or Rai), and other family members are phosphorylated following neurotrophin stimulation through the Trk receptor family. This phosphorylation enables them to engage effectors in the Ras/MAPK and PI3K/AKT pathways, thereby promoting neuronal differentiation, synaptic plasticity, and protecting against excitotoxic or oxidative stress. MIR6815 may function within this network by regulating the expression or stability of these adaptors or their cofactors, thereby indirectly influencing processes such as learning and memory, as well as the modulation of NMDA receptor function."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "3", "end_ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond the central nervous system, several reports indicate that the intricate regulation of cell proliferation, survival, and stress response relies on adaptor proteins and their interacting partners. For example, PHIP1, another molecular interactor, has been implicated in beta‐cell mitogenesis and protection against lipotoxicity, while altered PHIP expression is prognostic in melanomas. In T, B lymphocytes, and astrocytes, the adaptor Rai (ShcC) appears to have a dual role by dampening T cell receptor signals and modulating the inflammatory response in neurodegenerative and autoimmune contexts. Drawing from these diverse studies, MIR6815 is hypothesized to interface with such signaling nodes—potentially by fine‐tuning adaptor protein function and their downstream cascades—to impact cellular metabolism, survival, and immune regulation under stress or disease conditions."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "8", "end_ref": "18"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Philip E Tarr, Roberta Roncarati, Giuliana Pelicci, et al.
