| Name | microRNA 6820 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In particular, one study demonstrated that the circular RNA hsa_circ_0007367 is markedly upregulated in PDAC tissues and cells, where it acts as a molecular sponge for miR‐6820-3p. This sequestration of miR‐6820-3p results in the de-repression of the oncogene Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1), thereby promoting cell proliferation and metastasis. These findings highlight the critical role of MIR6820 in maintaining oncogenic balance in PDAC."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network has been described in which circSSPO binds to miR‐6820-5p. Under normal conditions, miR‐6820-5p is involved in the suppression of oncogenic targets such as kallikrein-related peptidase 8 (KLK8) and protein kinase D1 (PKD1). The downregulation of miR‐6820-5p by circSSPO leads to enhanced expression of these targets, thereby contributing to malignant cell properties including increased tumorigenic growth and metastasis in ESCC. This regulatory mechanism underscores the tumor suppressive potential of MIR6820 and its disruption in cancer progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Haocheng Zhang, Xiaolei Ma, Luning Wang, et al.
