MIR6825 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6825
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In the context of colorectal cancer (CRC) with neuroendocrine differentiation—a condition associated with poorer survival outcomes—the microRNA MIR6825 has garnered attention as a potential regulatory molecule. Although the abstract in (1) does not directly elaborate on MIR6825, its inclusion in related research suggests that it may operate as part of a broader network of non‐coding RNAs that modulate gene expression in these cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "Recent investigations have demonstrated that exosome‐derived long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve crucial roles in cancer progression and metastasis. In this milieu, MIR6825 is hypothesized to interact with or influence the biogenesis and function of these lncRNAs—contributing to the regulation of signaling pathways that underlie neuroendocrine differentiation in CRC. Further work is needed to elucidate whether MIR6825 acts upstream by controlling lncRNA levels or downstream by modulating target messenger RNAs in the metastatic cascade."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "Ultimately, while the precise mechanistic role of MIR6825 remains to be fully defined, its potential involvement in exosome-mediated communication and gene regulatory networks positions it as a promising biomarker and therapeutic target in CRC with neuroendocrine features.
