| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 6833 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRab3A is a small GTP‐binding protein that plays a central role in the regulation of vesicular trafficking at neuronal synapses. It acts late in the exocytotic pathway by facilitating synaptic vesicle docking and priming and by lowering the Ca²⁺ threshold required for fusion, which in turn modulates both short‐term and long‐term forms of synaptic plasticity. Genetic deletion and point‐mutation studies in rodent models have demonstrated that loss of Rab3A function leads to alterations in neurotransmitter release kinetics, deficits in synaptic plasticity, and abnormal patterns of evoked and spontaneous release. These findings collectively underline Rab3A’s function as a critical coordinator of presynaptic release machinery in neurons."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its neuronal roles, Rab3A is also pivotal in non‐neuronal secretory systems. In pancreatic β‐cells, for example, Rab3A facilitates the replenishment of the readily releasable pool of insulin granules, thereby ensuring efficient, Ca²⁺‐dependent insulin exocytosis. Similar mechanisms are evident in other secretory cells—its function has been implicated in governing acrosomal exocytosis during fertilization, as well as in the regulation of myelin protein transport in oligodendrocytes and pituitary melanotroph secretory responses. These findings underscore the versatility of Rab3A in modulating exocytotic events across varied cell types."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "11", "end_ref": "17"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, aberrations in Rab3A function contribute to diverse behavioral and disease phenotypes. Disruption of Rab3A has been linked to altered circadian rhythms, impaired learning and memory, and an imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory signaling that may predispose to epileptiform activity. Its dysregulation is additionally associated with oncogenic processes, such as in glioma progression, as well as with altered vesicle dynamics in non‐neuronal cells like podocytes. Epigenetic modifications—including Tet3‐mediated DNA hydroxymethylation—and possible post‐transcriptional control by microRNAs such as MIR6833 may further fine‐tune Rab3A expression in response to neuronal stimulation, thus integrating signals that govern vesicle mobilization and exocytosis. In parallel, Rab3A interactions with effector proteins (for example, Myosin-Va and CD63) serve to coordinate a spectrum of intracellular transport and membrane fusion events, emphasizing its multifunctional role in both health and disease."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "18", "end_ref": "29"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "C R Ward, D Faundes, J A Foster "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "The monomeric GTP binding protein, rab3a, is associated with the acrosome in mouse sperm."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Mol Reprod Dev (1999)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1002/(SICI)1098-2795(199908)53:4"}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "413::AID-MRD7"}], "href": "413::AID-MRD7"}, {"type": "t", "text": "3.0.CO;2-W"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1002/(SICI"}, {"type": "t", "text": "1098-2795(199908)53:4"}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "413::AID-MRD7"}], "href": "413::AID-MRD7"}, {"type": "t", "text": "3.0.CO;2-W) PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10398417"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10398417"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "David Kapfhamer, Otto Valladares, Yi Sun, et al.
