MIR6834 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6834
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

One study (39179085) demonstrated that the long noncoding RNA BC200 is significantly upregulated in EBV‐infected carcinoma cells and tissues, where it functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA). In this ceRNA network, BC200 acts by sponging and thereby inhibiting miR‑6834‑5p. miR‑6834‑5p normally targets thymidylate synthetase (TYMS), a gene that, when overexpressed, is associated with enhanced cellular proliferation and migration and poorer clinical outcomes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe suppression of miR‑6834‑5p by BC200 results in the de-repression of TYMS, facilitating its abnormal upregulation in EBV‐positive NPC cells and tissues. This molecular interplay underscores the tumor‐suppressive role that miR‑6834‑5p is poised to play under normal conditions, and how its inhibition contributes to the oncogenic processes in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Collectively, these findings suggest that the BC200/miR‑6834‑5p/TYMS axis is integral to NPC pathogenesis and may provide valuable biomarkers and potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of EBV-associated cancers."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Senmiao Zhang, Na Liu, Pengfei Cao, et al.
