MIR6843 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6843
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput microRNA (miRNA) data in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) has revealed that MIR6843 is one of a panel of differentially expressed miRNAs distinguishing tumor tissue from non‐tumor tissue. In a study examining the prognostic landscape of PTC, 150 miRNAs were found to be deregulated, and a four‐miRNA signature—including MIR6843—was identified as a reliable predictor of overall survival (OS). This signature effectively stratified patients into high‐risk and low‐risk categories, underscoring the potential of these miRNAs as prognostic biomarkers."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSpecifically, although the precise biological mechanisms of MIR6843 require further elucidation, its inclusion in the prognostic signature suggests that it may modulate pathways involved in tumor aggressiveness and progression. The four‐miRNA model, with an impressive area under the curve (AUC) of 0.886 for 5-year survival prediction, was shown to be an independent predictor of patient outcome after multivariate analysis. This finding highlights MIR6843’s potential clinical importance in risk stratification and decision-making for PTC management."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nTogether, these results support the emerging role of novel miRNA biomarkers, such as MIR6843, in the prognostication of PTC.
