| Name | microRNA 6854 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Although none of these studies explicitly mention MIR6854, the collective literature outlines regulatory networks in which non‐coding RNAs can play critical modulatory roles. In particular, studies have detailed the significance of O6‐methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and its regulation in response to alkylating agents (for example, in glioblastoma and colon cancer models), as well as the intricate control of metabolic enzymes such as AGAT and GAMT within the creatine synthesis pathway, which is vital for cellular energy homeostasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nGiven the pivotal roles these pathways play in determining the response to chemotherapeutic agents such as temozolomide and the influence of stress response pathways (including mTOR signaling and p53-dependent repair), one can infer that fine-tuning of gene expression is required for optimal cellular outcomes. In many contexts, microRNAs are key post-transcriptional regulators that alter the stability and translation of mRNAs encoding critical proteins such as MGMT, DNA repair factors, and metabolic enzymes. Therefore, it is plausible to propose that MIR6854 might function as a modulator within these networks—possibly influencing MGMT expression and, by extension, altering sensitivity to DNA damage and chemotherapeutic agents."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, insights from studies exploring aberrant methylation patterns, compensatory metabolic adaptations in muscular dystrophy, and neuroanatomical consequences of disrupted creatine metabolism suggest that the regulatory landscape is complex. Within this environment, a microRNA such as MIR6854 could be envisaged to serve as a crucial regulatory node, potentially impacting both DNA repair and metabolic stability. As such, its activity might intersect with pathways modulated by mTOR, p53, and the CCR4-NOT complex—thereby influencing tumor resistance, aging mechanisms, and even statin-induced myopathy. Continued research is needed to precisely delineate MIR6854’s molecular targets and biological impact in these multifaceted contexts."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "11", "end_ref": "18"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Yasumitsu Takagi, Masayuki Takahashi, Masayuki Sanada, et al.
