| Name | microRNA 6862-2 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent findings demonstrate that miR-6862, a novel microRNA residing in the cytoplasm of neuronal cells, plays a pivotal role in modulating neuronal survival by targeting SphK1 mRNA. Specifically, miR-6862 directly binds to the 3′-untranslated region of SphK1, reducing its expression when overexpressed in cell models such as SH-SY5Y and HCN-2. The downregulation of SphK1 resulting from elevated miR-6862 levels leads to heightened susceptibility of neurons to MPP+-induced apoptosis, a model of dopaminergic cell loss. Conversely, inhibition of miR-6862 elevates SphK1 expression and provides a protective effect against MPP+-mediated cytotoxicity, an effect that is nullified in SphK1-deficient cells. These results underscore miR-6862's critical function as a regulator of neuronal cell fate through its direct impact on SphK1 levels, thereby influencing the cellular response to neurotoxic insults."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Gang Xue, Ju-Ping Chen, Ya Li, et al.
