| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 6868 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAlthough none of the provided abstracts directly mention MIR6868, the collective literature on STRAP—a ubiquitously expressed WD40‐repeat protein—suggests broad, multifaceted regulatory roles in cell signaling and homeostasis that may provide important context for understanding MIR6868’s potential functions. Several studies demonstrate that STRAP acts as a scaffold and regulatory adaptor in key tumor suppressive and oncogenic pathways. For example, STRAP interacts with the central DNA‐binding region of p53, displacing its negative regulator Mdm2 to potentiate p53-mediated transcription, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest, while also modulating the stability of oncogenic drivers such as c-Jun and β-catenin. These activities highlight STRAP’s dual ability to promote cell death under certain conditions and enhance tumor cell invasion and metastasis in others."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its roles in modulating cell survival and proliferative signaling, STRAP is emerging as a critical regulator of RNA metabolism and translational control. It facilitates the assembly of the spliceosomal snRNP machinery—for instance, by interacting with core components of the SMN complex and Gemin proteins—to govern alternative splicing events that are essential for lineage commitment during embryogenesis. Moreover, STRAP is tethered to specific mRNAs (such as those encoding collagen polypeptides) via RNA-binding proteins, thereby restraining excessive translation and ensuring the coordinated synthesis necessary for proper protein assembly. Its involvement in autophagy is further underscored by its regulation of actin nucleation through modulation of factors like JMY."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "5", "end_ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSTRAP’s influence also extends to the regulation of innate immune signaling and developmental pathways. Acting as a scaffold in Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, STRAP recruits and stabilizes key kinases and transcription factors (including TAK1, IKKα, and NF-κB p65) to promote the production of inflammatory mediators. In parallel, STRAP modulates transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling and retinoic acid pathways to impact epithelial–mesenchymal transitions, neural patterning, and even intestinal tumorigenesis triggered by APC gene inactivation. These diverse functions underscore its role in maintaining cell polarity, adhesion, and appropriate differentiation states."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "10", "end_ref": "17"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn summary, while the specific role of MIR6868 is not delineated in these reports, the extensive characterization of STRAP across diverse cellular contexts—from tumor suppression and mRNA translation to splicing regulation and immune activation—suggests that any influence of MIR6868 on these pathways may occur through modulating STRAP-associated networks.
