MIR6872 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 6872
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent evidence suggests that the inactivation of Semaphorin 3B (SEMA3B), a gene known to be frequently silenced in various carcinomas, may have broader implications in gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA) tumorigenesis through its associated transcripts. In particular, miR-6872—encoded within the SEMA3B locus—and the antisense lncRNA SEMA3B‐AS1 emerge as candidate regulators whose functions in GCA remain to be clarified. Although the precise mechanisms of miR-6872 are not yet defined, its genomic association with a tumor suppressor gene hints that it may influence critical cellular processes such as differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis, either by fine-tuning SEMA3B expression or by modulating parallel pathways involved in carcinogenesis. Further functional studies are needed to delineate whether miR-6872 acts cooperatively with SEMA3B and SEMA3B‐AS1 to maintain tumor suppression or if its deregulation may promote oncogenic signaling in gastric tissues."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Wei Guo, Xiaoliang Liang, Lei Liu, et al.
