| Name | microRNA 6873 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In one investigation, circ‐RELL1 was found to bind directly to MIR6873-3p in ox-LDL–induced human endothelial cells, thereby relieving the microRNA’s inhibitory effect on MyD88 protein expression. This sequestration facilitates NF-κB pathway activation and increases the expression of adhesion molecules such as ICAM1 and VCAM1, contributing to the proinflammatory state observed in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAnother study focusing on vascular disease identified that hsa_circ_0001879, a circular RNA upregulated in atherosclerosis patients, acts as a sponge for MIR6873-5p. In this context, the binding of MIR6873-5p by hsa_circ_0001879 prevents the microRNA from promoting the degradation of HDAC9 mRNA. This interruption of MIR6873-5p’s activity results in a decrease in endothelial cell proliferation and migration, suggesting that through targeting distinct mRNA substrates, MIR6873 contributes to the regulation of cellular processes central to vascular remodeling and lesion formation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA related study examined the structure and cellular roles of sorting nexins, namely SNX20 and SNX21, in endosomal dynamics. Although this work provided novel insights into endosome-associated scaffolding and membrane trafficking, it did not address or implicate MIR6873 in its regulatory framework. This contrast underscores the context-dependent nature of MIR6873’s functions, which appear to be particularly critical in mediating inflammatory and proliferative responses in endothelial cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Hua-Shan Huang, Xiao-Yan Huang, Hui-Zhen Yu, et al.
