| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 6885 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In these works, rigorous dissection of cis‐ and trans‐acting elements, preinitiation complex assembly, and post‐transcriptional processing establishes a paradigm in which long noncoding RNAs modulate epigenetic states and developmental choices."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "14"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA second thematic subset of the abstracts further refines our understanding of epigenetic reprogramming, imprinting, and chromatin dynamics associated with the X‐inactivation center. Although some reports touch upon microRNA involvement (for example, in the context of Tsix regulation and interactions with protein partners), none delineate a role for MIR6885; rather, they underscore a complex regulatory network where noncoding RNAs and epigenetic marks are key."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "15", "end_ref": "23"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA final group of abstracts has focused on the broader implications of noncoding RNA biology in disease‐ and injury‐related contexts—such as particle‐induced osteolysis, fracture healing, and spinal cord injury—wherein axes involving TSIX and specific microRNAs (for example, miR‑30a‑5p) have been implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis, and even key signaling cascades like PI3K/AKT. Despite these important findings, none of these investigations provide any data regarding the function of MIR6885.
