MIR7106 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 7106
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMIR7106 appears to play a role in the regulation of endocytic trafficking by modulating key components of vesicle formation and fusion. In one study, Rabankyrin-5—an effector of the small GTPase Rab5—was characterized as binding PI(3)P on early endosomes and macropinosomes, thereby stimulating endosomal fusion and fluid-phase uptake in epithelial cells. These findings suggest that MIR7106 may contribute to controlling the efficiency of clathrin‐mediated and non‐clathrin‐mediated pinocytotic processes by influencing the activity or expression of such regulators."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional observations highlight the significance of endocytic modulators—exemplified by the zinc binding FYVE finger protein Ankhzn—in vesicle formation. Ankhzn localizes with endocytosed transferrin and marks vesicles implicated in both endocytosis and autophagy, with its expression particularly enhanced during conditions of cellular stress (e.g., serum starvation). This reinforces the possibility that MIR7106, if functionally linked to these processes, may be involved in ensuring proper membrane transport and intracellular trafficking through regulation of proteins like Ankhzn."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAltogether, the data imply that MIR7106 could serve as an upstream regulatory molecule that fine-tunes membrane dynamics by impacting the activity of specific endocytic effectors. Through modulation of proteins such as Rabankyrin-5 and Ankhzn, MIR7106 may help integrate the diverse pathways of receptor-mediated endocytosis, macropinocytosis, and autophagy, thereby contributing to vital cellular processes including nutrient uptake, signal transduction, and homeostasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Carsten Schnatwinkel, Savvas Christoforidis, Margaret R Lindsay, et al.
