| Name | microRNA 7113 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Although the study (1) did not explicitly mention MIR7113, this microRNA is a member of a class of small regulatory RNAs known to modulate gene expression and, thereby, can potentially influence key immune signaling processes. By regulating the translation or stability of mRNAs encoding proteins involved in inflammatory cascades, MIR7113 may contribute to either aberrant activation or impaired resolution of immune responses, a mechanism that is consistent with the dysregulated pathways observed in PTSD."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "Disrupted regulation of signaling molecules suggests that microRNAs play an important upstream role in fine-tuning immune responses. Given that chronic inflammation in PTSD may arise from failures in these regulatory systems, MIR7113 could represent one of the molecular switches that, when misregulated, lead to persistent immune system activation. Its function, as inferred from the context of altered PBMC signaling, may involve the suppression or enhancement of critical signaling intermediates that determine the intensity and duration of inflammatory responses."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "Further studies that directly examine MIR7113’s targets and its regulatory network in immune cells are necessary to elucidate its precise role in the pathophysiology of PTSD.
