| Name | microRNA 7160 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMicroRNA-7160 (miR-7160) acts as a potent tumor suppressor in nonāsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by directly targeting the mRNA of SIX1, a homeoprotein whose upregulation is closely associated with NSCLC tumorigenesis and progression. Binding of miR-7160 to SIX1 mRNA decreases its expression, which in turn leads to the inhibition of cancer cell growth, proliferation, migration, and invasion, while promoting apoptosis. Notably, blockade of miR-7160 results in elevated SIX1 levels and enhanced oncogenic activity, and the restoration of SIX1 expression negates the anti-tumor effects induced by miR-7160. In vivo, intratumoral administration of a miR-7160-expressing lentivirus culminated in reduced SIX1 mRNA levels and suppressed NSCLC xenograft growth, a finding that is further corroborated by the observed inverse correlation between miR-7160 and SIX1 expression in human NSCLC specimens."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Hua-Si Zhao, Xiao-Min Tao, Qun Wang, et al.
