MIR7855 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 7855
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In one study examining the proteolytic activity of beta‐site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) in the nervous system—which principally focused on identifying and validating novel in vivo substrates of BACE1—complex regulatory pathways were uncovered. Although this work did not explore miR-7855, it contributes to the broader context of protein processing and molecular regulation in neurological tissues."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a separate study focusing on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the long non‐coding RNA AC006262.5 was found to bind and regulate miR-7855-5p, a miRNA that functions as a tumor suppressor. This regulatory interaction establishes a feedback loop in which AC006262.5 upregulation leads to decreased miR-7855-5p expression, thereby relieving miR-7855-5p-mediated repression of BPY2C. The net result is an enhancement of proliferation, migration, and invasiveness of HCC cells, highlighting miR-7855-5p’s critical role in counteracting tumor progression. These findings suggest that restoring miR-7855-5p function might offer a novel therapeutic avenue in HCC."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Jasenka Rudan Njavro, Jakob Klotz, Bastian Dislich, et al.
